The Case for Chicken-Derived Antibodies in Modern Immunoassay Development
Chicken-derived IgY antibodies offer several practical advantages over traditional mammalian antibody sources for many research applications. Because chickens are evolutionarily distant from mammals, they generate stronger immune responses against mammalian antigens that are highly conserved and therefore poorly immunogenic in other mammals like rabbits or mice. This means chicken antibodies often succeed where mammalian antibody production fails.
IgY antibodies are also collected non-invasively from egg yolks rather than from blood draws, which is both more animal-welfare-friendly and yields larger quantities of antibody per animal over time.
At AffinityImmuno, our chicken polyclonal antibody services have been used across a range of applications, from routine ELISA development to specialized anti-idiotype antibody production for biosimilar characterization work.
